Health Innovation Challenge Fund

Aim: To accelerate the development of a technology or intervention to the stage at which it is sufficiently attractive to follow-on funders or investors (or where possible, uptake into the clinic).

Funding: No upper or lower limit for the size of the award.

Process: Two-stage process. Full applications are sent for peer review and applicants have an opportunity to respond in writing to the comments. Shortlisted applicaants must present their project in person to the funding committee. The process takes 7 months.

Criteria: Applications will be judged on the following criteria:

  • clearly demonstrated 'proof-of-principle'
  • technical feasibility of the project
  • potential for development from current state to a final product
  • benefit to patients within 3-5 years
  • commercial strategy
  • plan for adoption of the technology into the NHS
  • strength of the team
  • value for money.
